TERMS, CONDITIONS AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Fire, Lightning, Impact, Explosion, Earthquake, Aircraft, Riots and Strikes, Malicious Damage, Storm and Tempest and/or Water, Burglary (Limited to $30,000) which shall mean theft resulting from forcible entry to the Unit and/or premises and Accidental Damage (Limited to $30,000) (excluding whilst loading and/or unloading from the unit). Coverage limited to $10,000 for Antiques and Paintings.

Exclusions: This cover does not include indemnity for:

  1. The first $250 of each and every claim. You must bear this amount yourself.
  2. Currency, deeds, securities, money, cheques or other negotiable instruments, notes, coins, stamp collections, jewellery, watches, precious stones, furs or garments trimmed with fur.
  3. Motor vehicles including motor or trail bikes, motorised minibikes.
  4. Boats or other watercraft.
  5. Fire arms or ammunition.
  6. Any flammable liquid, gas, oil or other dangerous or explosive goods such as petrol, kerosene, LPG, aerosols, diesel fuel or engine oil, any corrosive chemicals or nitrates such as chlorine, sulphuric acid or fertiliser.
  7. Perishable goods.
  8. Loss or damage to property which is caused directly or indirectly by its own:
    1. wear, tear, fading, scratching or marring, rust, oxidation, corrosion or deterioration; or
    2. mechanical breakdown, electrical breakdown, fault, inherent detect, omission or design, plan, specification or failure of design.
  9. Loss or damage directly or indirectly resulting from:
    1. vermin, insects, moths, termites, mildew, mould, wet or dry rot, change of colour, dampness, evaporation, disease, inherent vice or latent defect, spontaneous combustion, atmospheric or climatic conditions (other than storms); or
    2. detention, confiscation, nationalisation, destruction or requisition by customs or other authorities.
  10. Loss or damage caused directly or indirectly by any consequence of war, invasions, acts of foreign enemies, hostilities (whether war be declared or not), civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, military or usurped power or confiscation or nationalisation or requisition or destruction of or damage to property by or under the order of any government or public or local authority.
  11. Loss or damage or in the incurring of a liability caused directly or indirectly by or arising from radioactivity or the use, existence or escape of any nuclear fuel, nuclear waste, or nuclear material.
  12. Consequential loss or legal liability of any kind.
  13. Water from or action by the sea, tidal wave, flood or high water.
  14. Loss or damage caused directly or indirectly by subsidence, landslip, erosion or earth movement (other than earthquake).
  15. Theft of property in the open air.
  16. Unexplained or inventory shortage or disappearance resulting from clerical or accounting errors, shortage in supply or delivery of materials to or from the Insured.
  17. Loss of and/or damage occasioned by or happening through fraudulent or dishonest acts, fraudulent misappropriation, embezzlement or forgery by you or your agents, kidnapping, threats, hoaxes, extortion or any attempted threat.
  18. Any legal liability of whatsoever nature.
  19. Terrorism.

Basis of Settlement for loss or damage is:

  1. replacement value of goods except. clothing and linen over 10 years old which will be settled on an indemnity basis (i.e. value of goods at time of loss, not replacement).
  2. archive records ' the cost to reinstate and/or replace documents, but not the value of the information contained therein.

Claims: on the happening of any event likely to give rise to a claim you must:

  1. take all reasonable precautions without delay to minimize the loss or damage and to prevent further loss or damage,
  2. immediately inform the police if the property insured is lost or damaged and forcible entry or malicious damage has occurred or is suspected,
  3. notify your Self Storage Facility manager, as soon as possible,
  4. complete and lodge a claim form as soon as practicable and submit to Insurers all particulars of the claim,
  5. not authorize the repair of the property insured without Insurer's consent,
  6. promptly forward to Insurers any writ, summons, communication received concerning the event or claim and YOU shall not negotiate, admit or repudiate liability without Insurer's written consent; and
  7. provide Insurers with all proofs and information as may reasonably be required together with a statutory declaration (if requested) of the truth of the claim and any matters connected therein.

General Conditions: The Insurers are entitled to refuse to pay a claim without prejudice to any other right they may have under this Policy if.

  1. any claim is in any way fraudulent, or
  2. any fraudulent mean or devices are used by you or anyone acting on your behalf to obtain any benefits under this Policy, or
  3. you make a fraudulent claim under this Policy or any other policy of Insurance that provided Insurance cover during any part of the period during which this Policy provides Insurance cover.

Complaints

Clients who are not fully satisfied with these services should contact Strathearn Insurance Brokers complaints officer. Strathearn are also Members of the Insurance Brokers Disputes Limited, a free consumer service. Strathearn also adopts the General Insurance Broker's Code of Practice.

Cooling off Period

If you are not satisfied with any aspect of this cover, your premium will be refunded in full and the cover cancelled from its commencement date if:

You return the Certificate to the Self Storage facility where your goods are stored within 14 days of the commencement date of the cover and nothing has happened to give rise to a claim before you return the Certificate.
