The bad news: our fave teams didn’t make it to the final match. The great news: the Melbourne Stars and Brisbane Heat did us – and their fans – proud throughout the season.
Semi-Final Overview: Brisbane Heat
Our semis match-up with the Sixers was truly edge-of-your-seat thrilling. After looking shaky for most of the match, we hung in to end it in a rare tied final score. This meant the game came down to a nail-biting Super Over, where the Sixers showed some incredible form to take home the win and go through to the final.
Heat V Sixers (25/01)
- Final Score: Heat (9/167) lost by 7 runs in the Super Over to the Sixers (8/167).
- Standout Player: The Sixers seemed fully in control of the chase until Mark Steketee stepped up and dropped 2 wickets, breaking the Sixers’ momentum at a crucial point in the game.
Semi-Final Overview: Melbourne Stars
The Stars struggled to hit their stride after Scorchers bowler Mitchell Johnson knocked out some of their key batters. This made it difficult to put a defendable score on the board, though the team fought valiantly right to the last minute.
Stars V Scorchers (24/01)
- Final Score: Stars (8/136) lost by 7 wickets to Scorchers (3/139).
- Standout Player: Seb Gotch impressed us in what was only his third BBL match, keeping a cool head while those around him were falling to the Scorchers’ excellent bowling. We can’t wait to see what this promising young batter brings next season!
